Media Adviser in HIV and AIDS Programming (six-month placement), based in Hargeisa, Somaliland

The post holder should have a relevant qualification in Journalism, and a specialisation in HIV and AIDS and public health information design and dissemination, or similar appropriate discipline.

You should have a minimum of three years' direct work experience on planning and implementing HIV and AIDS public health information promotion activities. You should also have experience of: providing training both formally and informally; newsletter writing/publication, radio and TV programme design, implementing and monitoring; print media journalism and editing; and of providing media training/mentoring/coaching. Previous experience of working on HIV and AIDS issues with Muslim populations; of liaison with a range of different organisations and stakeholders, and of working in a resource poor environment are all essential.

You should also have the ability to transfer skills and knowledge through formal or informal training and skill-sharing; proven knowledge/experience in organisational development and capacity building of local NGOs; basic skills in fundraising; commitment to team-building and consensus-led approach to work; the ability to promote a gender sensitive approach to issues relating to HIV and AIDS; good interpersonal and communication skills; understanding of the importance of good networking and information strategies surrounding HIV and AIDS,  and cultural sensitivity in an Islamic setting.

Experience in and knowledge of international and regional AIDS NGOs; of working with NGOs or media groups (Newspaper, Radio or Television); and the ability to communicate in Somali (spoken and written) are also highly desirable.
