Haiti’s luck is running low. Already the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere – where children as young as six expect to go out to work - it recently suffered catastrophic storms that caused untold misery. Yet, in despair there is hope, says Progressio’s Kate Long.

As the news slowly filters around the world that the US has elected its first black President, disbelief gives way to utter elation, writes Progressio's Executive Director, Christine Allen. When Martin Luther King first said he had a dream, how many of us thought that in our own lifetime we would see such a significant moment as this?

The church's ability to keep the East Timorese community strong through 25 years of occupation and conflict will also be "instrumental" in helping the poverty-stricken country to move forward, a leading Timorese politician, Fernanda Borges, will tell a UK audience when she visits London on October 14.
Development agency Progressio today gave a cautious welcome to the news announced last night by President Thabo Mbeki that there would be a power sharing agreement for a Government of National Unity in Zimbabwe.

The DLA festival takes place in London from Thursday November 27 to Sunday December 7. Enjoy an inspiring selection of Latin American films safe in the knowledge that your money is supporting HIV and AIDS projects on the front line.

In this Comment, Sean McDonagh and Donal Dorr argue that Terminator technology (the genetic modification of seeds so that they become sterile after the first planting) poses an unacceptable threat to poor and marginalised small-scale farmers and to the world’s environment, and is fundamentally wrong on moral and theological grounds.
