Development Worker - Advocacy and Communications (two-year placement), based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (with occasional travel to the border area with Haiti) (15 Dec 2008 )
The aims of this placement are: a) to strengthen the Southern perspective of Progressio’s international and regional advocacy; b) to build the advocacy and communications capacity of the Jesuit Refugee Migrant Service (SJRM) in the Dominican Republic; c) to support local civil society organisations to develop a coordinated approach to national and regional advocacy in migration related issues, in particular on the rights of Dominican-Haitian and Haitian migrants, and bi-national issues including the bi-national market and border area; d) to contribute to developing the Hispaniola programme (Dominican Republic and Haiti) as a centre of knowledge in citizen rights that can contribute to policy development and share examples and experiences of good practice. The development worker’s (DW) time will be divided as follows: 50 per cent: to liaise with SJRM (the main partner, in whose offices they will be based), Foro Ciudadano (Migration Commission), Red de Encuentro Dominico Haitiano Jacques Viau and Red Binacional Jano Sikse. 50 per cent: to liaise with Progressio, contributing to the organisation’s communications and advocacy work.

Advocacy Capacity Building Adviser (two-year placement), based in Dili, Timor Leste (15 Dec 2008 )
Progressio will place a Development Worker (DW) to work as an Advocacy Capacity Building Adviser with Rede Feto, a national women’s network in Timor Leste. The DW will assist Rede Feto in identifying and undertaking effective advocacy, including by increasing their capacity to strategise effective programmes of action and increasing their knowledge and skills in monitoring and evaluation. Such that the overall impact on Rede Feto itself, improvements in legislation in Timor Leste, and the overall situation of local communities can be demonstrated.

Advocacy Adviser (placement to end by 31 March 2010), based in Hargeisa, Somaliland (14 Dec 2008 )
The Progressio Development Worker (DW) working as an Advocacy Adviser will work alongside Nagaad, a women’s network organisation, supporting both Nagaad staff and the partner organisations that make up the network. The work will entail building knowledge and skills for the promotion of women’s rights in general, and in particular their increased participation in decision-making bodies at the local council, parliamentary and executive cabinet level.

Blind and Visually Impaired Rights Adviser (placement until the end of March 2010), based in Hargeisa, Somaliland (14 Dec 2008 )
The Progressio development worker (DW) working as a Blind and Visually Impaired Rights Adviser will work alongside a local NGO – Doses of Hope - Somaliland Braille centre – supporting staff and the partner organisation, to promote the rights of visually impaired people in Somaliland. The DW will also assist in teaching Braille and in overcoming barriers that prevent the visually impaired from being active and creative members of the community, through access to information, rehabilitation and other support services.

Cooperante en estrategias de prevención de VIH con jóvenes (convenio de cooperación de dos años), en San Salvador, El Salvador (7 Dec 2008 )
La persona cooperante apoyará a la Fundación para el Desarrollo Juvenil (FDJ) en su trabajo de prevención de VIH con adolescentes y jóvenes, y particularmente en la elaboración de una metodología incluyente con jóvenes en la prevención del VIH. También facilitará la capacitación al personal docente de dos centros educativos (Centro Escolar Tomás Cabrera y Centro Educativo Católico Asunción Paleca), así como a grupos de la Parroquia Inmaculada Concepción. Ambos Centros Educativos y la Parroquia coordinan acciones de prevención de VIH con la FDJ.

Production and Market Development Adviser (two-year placement), based in Lilongwe, Malawi (1 Dec 2008 )
The Progressio Development Worker (DW) will work as a Production and Market Development Adviser with the Malawi Organic Growers Association (MOGA). S/he will share technical knowledge and expertise that will promote organic farming and marketing of produce produced as a result of environmentally friendly methods with small scale farmers. The DW will be expected to facilitate the adoption of production and marketing standards that will enable smallholder farmers to access new markets both nationally and, potentially, internationally. Overall, the project is pro-poor and will lead to increased income for small scale farmers.

Especialista en Comunicación para el Desarrollo (convenio de cooperación de dos años), en Managua, Nicaragua (23 Nov 2008 )
La persona cooperante desempeñará sus labores con el Centro de Información y Servicios de Asesoría en Salud (CISAS). Su trabajo consistirá en apoyar a la difusión de mensajes de prevención e incidencia en torno a los derechos humanos y más específicamente Salud Sexual y Reproductiva y VIH y SIDA, mediante el diseño, ejecución, seguimiento y evaluación de una estrategia de comunicación a nivel nacional que contribuya a la formación e información de diversos actores sociales, particularmente en Managua, León, Chinandega y en la Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte (RAAN) de Nicaragua.

East Timor Country Representative, full time, 24-month contract, £17.500 pa (plus other benefits), based in Dili, East Timor (23 Nov 2008 )
We are looking for a highly motivated, confident and resourceful individual with a genuine commitment to development and advocacy, seeking to work in a cutting edge development agency and with local partners, development workers and other stakeholders addressing poverty, exclusion and injustice in East Timor. The post holder will be responsible for managing the country programme in East Timor (this includes human resources, financial and programme management) and ensuring the delivery of programme plans. S/he will have a pivotal role in defining development policy and priority areas for Progressio's work in the country. Within the context of Progressio’s work of skill-sharing and advocacy, the post holder will oversee the expansion of the programme.

Especialista en desarrollo municipal con énfasis en planificación estratégica y desarrollo fronterizo (convenio de cooperación de un año), en Dajabón (República Dominicana) - Wanament (Haití) (23 Nov 2008 )
La persona cooperante trabajará con el Comité Interinstitucional de Dajabón (CID), para contribuir en su fortalecimiento y en la definición de un plan estratégico para el municipio que tome en cuenta las relaciones binacionales y la acción conjunta entre los actores de las dos ciudades fronterizas: Dajabón (República Dominicana) y Wanament (Haití) con el fin de promover planes o agendas de Desarrollo municipal o binacional de ambas ciudades. La persona cooperante acompañará a los actores locales en la definición del Plan Estratégico del Municipio de Dajabón, específicamente, en facilitar la inclusión de la perspectiva binacional y de género en cada uno de los ámbitos temáticos. Facilitará también herramientas metodológicas sobre planificación estratégica, apoyará al CID en la organización y seguimiento de los grupos de trabajo, en la elaboración de un diagnóstico integral del municipio de Dajabón y en la realización de actividades de sensibilización y capacitación con el objetivo de fortalecer institucionalmente los nuevos espacios de concertación a nivel municipal y binacional. Se espera que la persona cooperante coordine con el equipo en Wanament el proceso de desarrollo local con miras a replicar la experiencia de planificación estratégica. Además, el/la cooperante deberá encaminar acciones de capacitación del liderazgo local, de manera que se pueda avanzar en la construcción de capital social, con el propósito de que el Plan Estratégico sea asumido por los/a actores/as locales.
