Academy of Peace and Development (APD)

The APD is a local academic and research institution, with particular expertise in the promotion and consolidation of peace and good governance in Somaliland.

Amoud University

Amoud was launched in 1998 and is registered as a non-governmental, non-profit making institution. Deeply rooted in the local community, primary support for its establishment came from community elders and leaders, business people, concerned citizens and local NGOs. Starting with just two faculties, three teachers and 2,000 books, Amoud now has 33 teachers, three faculties, 80,000 books and around 600 students.


General Assistance and Volunteer Organisation (GAVO)

GAVO is a youth-based non-governmental and non-profit humanitarian organisation based in Berbera, Hargeisa and Burao. Founded in 1993 it has a dedicated staff team and many young volunteers. It focuses on social development programmes including mental health care, rehabilitation of street children, sanitation awareness, HIV and AIDS, raising awareness about female genital mutilation and non-formal educational skill training.

Somaliland National Youth Organisation (SONYO)

SONYO was formed to give a collective voice to Somaliland youth and to coordinate emerging youth groups that had become marginalised. SONYO has now become the voice of youth of Somaliland and provides the main venue for youth leaders to come together to discuss their common agendas and issues, to access services and to learn and build the skills of Somaliland youth.


Hargeisa Youth and Development Association (HYDA)

HYDA is a member of SONYO and aims to represent the views of youth in Hargeisa. It is particularly recognised for its excellent HIV and AIDS work and is a lead partner within SONYO on this issue.
 

NAGAAD

NAGAAD is a women's umbrella organization bringing together local NGOs working on issues affecting women. In 2005 it helped establish the Women's Political Forum and developed the Women's Political Agenda that gathered different women leaders from three political parties, and served as a platform for parliamentary elections.


Somaliland HIV and AIDS Network (SAHAN) 

SAHAN was established in 2003 and is an umbrella organisation of 70 member organisations across the six regions of Somaliland addressing issues surrounding HIV and AIDS.


Somaliland National Disabilities Forum (SNDF)

SNDF launched in 2004 and is a coalition formed principally to mobilise government and civic bodies to advocate and campaign for the rights of people with disabilities. The forum is the only representative body established to articulate the concerns of people with disabilities in Somaliland, and membership is open to all organisations actively involved in disability work.


Somaliland National Aids Commission (SOLNAC)

SOLNAC is a corporate body composed of twelve members appointed by the Somaliland presidency that leads on the national action plan, policy formulation and advice regarding HIV and AIDS. Members are drawn from the government, civil society organisations, PLWHAs and religious and community leaders selected for their outstanding expertise and commitment to fighting HIV and AIDS.

TALOWADAG

Established in 2006, TALOWADAG is a women's coalition committed to the gradual elimination of HIV and AIDS through preventative strategies and care of people affected by HIV and AIDS in Somaliland.
